Kyoto, Japan - [January 15, 2025] - Samco Inc. (TSE: 6387), a leading manufacturer of semiconductor processing equipment, announced that its Chairman, Osamu Tsuji, attended the memorial service for Dr. Shing-Chung Wang, held at National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University (NYCU) in Taiwan. Dr. Wang, renowned as the "Father of the White-Light Laser," was a pioneer in semiconductor laser technology whose groundbreaking contributions advanced the fields of optics and optoelectronics.
The memorial service took place on Saturday, January 11, at the Tan Kah Kee Photonics Center on NYCU's Kuang-Fu Campus in Hsinchu, Taiwan. Dr. Wang, who passed away in October 2024, was celebrated as a visionary researcher, earning accolades such as Fellow of the Optical Society of America and the Japan Society of Applied Physics Academic Award. His achievements included developing Taiwan's first helium-neon (HeNe) laser, the world's first white-light laser, and the first gallium nitride-based blue vertical-cavity surface-emitting laser, earning him global recognition.
Approximately 50 guests, including dignitaries, colleagues, and friends, attended the service to honor Dr. Wang's remarkable legacy and warm personality. During the ceremony, Chairman Tsuji delivered a heartfelt tribute.

"I would like to celebrate the remarkable life and achievements of my dear friend, Dr. Shing-Chung Wang.
I first met Dr. Wang nearly 50 years ago, and from that moment, we became 'friendly rivals,' striving to reach greater heights in our respective fields. Over the years, our bond grew stronger through shared ideas and collaborations, including hosting many of his students at Samco.
Dr. Wang's groundbreaking work on semiconductor lasers and quantum confinement structures profoundly influenced the scientific community. He was an inspiring figure, whose passion and dedication were unparalleled. I am deeply grateful for the opportunity to collaborate with him for over 30 years.
Dr. Wang, you will be greatly missed, but your contributions to science and the friendships you forged will never be forgotten. Rest in peace, my dear friend."
